Thailand - Chiang-Mai

Chiang-Mai is a laid-back city in northern Thailand. Being the second largest city in Thailand with a temple in what seems like every corner, it feels 'authentic', but has enough tourists and expats so that it's a convenient place for foreigners. Even the Thai movies at the movie theater have English subtitles. We watched one. It was terrible, but Bill was happy to sit in a movie theater eating pop corn and I could pretend that we were doing something 'cultural'. Definitely a win-win situation.
Thailand in general has been a very easy place to travel - clean, cheap with friendly people. Even the touts here actually go away if you say "no, thank you." Amazing. Yesterday, we flagged down a tuk-tuk and asked the driver how much the ride would be. There was a silent moment while the driver thought about how much he should charge us. Bill, impatient, yelled out "60 baht!" exactly at the same time the driver said "40." We all looked at each other, laughed and settled on 50. Nice work, Bill.

This is Wat Phra That Doi Suthep:

Sunday street market:

Bill couldn't help himself and ordered nachos at a restaurant. It was terrible:
Incidentally, the Thai food we had in Mexico was terrible too.

I wish they would decide on the presidential candidate already so we can stop watching CNN and go back to sightseeing. This is me watching the news and moisturizing:

I love the moisturizing shot! Also, I think it is time for an update on the various trip related statistics (e.g. how much weight lost, favorite food, favorite beach, favorite city, etc.).

By the way, no baby news. She is now 4 days late.

message for jeeheon (and girls, ok, and men interested in these kind of stuff) only:

are you using the moisture 'pack'?
have you used Kanebo?

i strongly recommend the 'Kanebo' facial pack sheets thingies.

You can get it for really cheap in Korea. and it's really effective
(moisturizing + whitening + collagen + etc. etc. etc. in case your SPF 55 sunblock did not do the job)! better than SK II, which is supposed to be super effective, but super expensive.

Jeeheon,

I can see your freckles through the mudmask.

Kathy - Baby Steffens is just being fashionably late. I think Bill is now skinnier than he was in law school.

Woni - Kanebo should pay you, or at least give you a free sample. Mom gave me some SK II packs for the trip (she is very worried about this trip ruining my skin) but I will try Kanebo when it runs out.

Chris - you are mean.

You know that "around the world" assumes that you are coming back...I need to know when to get The Macallan ready.

Be safe & have fun!

Thanks for the beauty tip ladies! I'm going to try Kanebo and SK II. I've been so stuck on Shiseido that it's time for me to try new products.

Good point about the "around the world" concept. On that note, when are you guys returning to the US?
