Turkey - Pamukkale & Fethiye

Pamukkale:

Pamukkale (Cotton Castle) used to be one of the most famous sights in Turkey. The hot spring water flowing down from the hill reacts with the stone - something about carbon dioxide, or was it calcium carbonate? - anyway, it makes white, chalky travertines filled with hot spring water. Or at least it used to - due to the heavy development and tourism, the water has almost dried out and much of it turned brown. But the Turkish government is trying to revive it - many of the travertines are blocked off from tourists and you have go barefoot. It was an interesting sight, though it looked nothing like the postcards that were sold. I think the postcards use pictures from the 70`s.
Fethiye:
Fethiye is a pretty harbour town on the Mediterranean coast of Turkey. Fethiye has impressive rock tombs carved into the cliffs by the Lycians ın 4th century BC.
Fethiye old city:
We haven`t had a TV for a while and had to resort to reading books. Many of the hotels we stay at have book exchanges, and it is interesting what one can find there. I have read from feminist analysis of the word 'slut' to the memoirs of Lady Chablis, the fabulous drag queen in the book/movie Midnight Garden of Good and Evil. But I had the best find the other day - a hard copy of the latest and final Harry Potter series! Didn't that book come out only couple months ago?
This is Bill reading Harry Potter by the hotel pool:
We have become really lazy - well, I have always been lazy but Bill has now joined me. We didn't go to the ancient castle in Fethiye solely for the reason that it required walking uphill. Instead, we chose to go see the movie Rogue Assassin - what a terrible movie, Jet Li absolutely wasted.

Nice score with the Harry Potter book. I was certainly surprised when Harry was blinded in the last chapter and ended up killing Ron by mistake.

Keep those updates coming . . .

i had to google your name and bill's to find your blog. Guess where I stumbled into - a blog by 'Claude and Iain (spelling?)', whom you guys met somewhere in Turkey.

You and Bill are described as the '32 something lawyers from the US, with a strong attachment to sturdy plastic bags,' an attachment which Claude and Iain apparently understand..

It's funny to read about your trip from the perspective of complete strangers!

Michael - have you seen Sixth Sense? No? Bruce Willis is a ghost.

Woni - it is the world wide circuit of vagabond ex-yuppies. They do have a fun blog, here ıs the address:

I got made fun of yesterday because I have "evening time" plastic bag and a different plastic bag for going to the beach. It's all the new rage.
